Chesapeake Bay sailing school
Norton´s Sailing School
Offering fully sanctioned ASA sailing classes to both beginners and advanced students Norton Yachts is located in nearby Deltaville.
ASA credentials are recognized world wide and enable certified sailors to charter sailboats at Norton´s Sail Charters or with major charter companies elsewhere.
Norton teaches on late model Hunter sailboat with inboard power and wheel steering.
Boat sizes range from 28 to 34 feet. Norton Sailing School will even teach students on their own boat from the Tides Inn Marina if it is properly equipped.
Premier sailing school
A Virginia sailing school near the Chesapeake Bay, has a well-deserved reputation for offering top quality instruction in a safe, fun environment.
This professional sailing school located at the Tides Inn offers US Sailing Keelboat certificate courses plus a wide range of sailing options for families and for children as young as 6.
SAFE POWERBOATING CERTIFICATE COURSES
Get your Boaters Education certificate - mandatory in many states and learn great powerboating skills on the water with Premier Sailing. The school is now designated as a Safe Powerboating training centre by US Powerboating.
Two day and one day classes are open to adults and to kids age 12-17.
The Tides Inn is a perfect location with the shelter of the harbor for small boats plus the beach on one side for small boat sailing, as well as the marina on the other side with the wide waters of the Rappahannock River for big boat sailing.
Chesapeake Bay Boat Charters
Enjoy an hour or a day on the water with Rappahannock River and Chesapeake Bay boat charters, and specialty cruises departing from the Tides Inn.
Captain Gene offers two-hour packages that celebrate sunset, stargazing on the Rappahannock, or "Feeding Time" on either side of low tide.
Half-day Chesapeake Bay cruises feature a Sandy Point picnic or beachcombing on Mosquito Island, while full-day cruises sail to either Tangier Island (with an island or tiki bar stop along the way) or past the historic lighthouses of Mobjack Bay with beaching at New Point.
Climb aboard the Miss Nicole, a historic Chesapeake Deadrise, and cruise or fish the waters of the Northern Neck for a half day, evening or full day.
Or enjoy a one-hour couples cruise, a 1.5 to two-hour lunch or dinner or sunset cruise, or a four to six-hour day cruise to the historic town of Urbanna for shopping and dining. (Beverages and snacks are provided on all cruises.)
Create memories in the Chesapeake Bay and Northern Neck with a private "Treasure The Day," "Blue Water Therapy" or "Sunset" cruise including snacks for your party.
Or choose your own skippered Chesapeake Bay charter for a morning, afternoon or full day -- if your group has more than five people, charter two identical boats and have fun racing each other to your lunch destination.
If you´d like to charter a special cruise, consider a four-hour lunch trip or two-hour evening cruise to Urbanna.
Enjoy a one-hour Cocktail Cruise including wine and beer from 5-6pm, and extend it from 6:30-8pm Friday nights during the Crab Cruise. Or board the City of Fredericksburg paddle-wheel for a lunch or dinner cruise including a buffet, captain´s narration and DJ music with full bar available.
Friday and Saturday nights offer a dinner/dance cruise with DJ or live music for dancing the night away.

TANGIER ISLAND, VIRGINIA
From Buzzard´s Point in Reedville, board the Chesapeake Breeze for a day boat cruise to Tangier Island.
Tour this quaint island in the middle of Chesapeake Bay where island families earn their living from the famous blue crab.
See crab shanties, wander along the commercial docks where the crab boats are tied up, and stroll the narrow streets where bicycles and golf carts are the main means of transportation.
After a seafood dinner at the Chesapeake House, return to the boat and arrive back in Reedville.
SMITH ISLAND, MARYLAND
Board the Captain Evans from Smith Point in Reedville for a day cruise to quaint Smith Island.
On your way, pass by the Smith Point Lighthouse guarding the shoals where the Potomac River meets the Chesapeake Bay.
On the island, also home to families who make their living on the water, stop in at the Smith Island Museum, which interprets the history and culture of Maryland´s only inhabited off-shore island, then take a walking tour of the village of Ewell.
After lunch at your choice of waterfront restaurants, return to your boat for the homeward cruise and arrive back in Reedville.

The Tides Inn offers a variety of Chesapeake Bay boating and water activities for making the most of this beautiful location.
Enjoy a Carters Creek cruise, taking in the scenery, wildlife and gorgeous homes of Irvington while learning about the history of the town and its impact on the crabbing industry in Chesapeake Bay.
Choose your favorite type of watercraft -- paddleboards, kayak, paddleboat or canoe -- then stop by the Marina office for a map of the creek, information on Chesapeake Bay sailing and seasonal guided tours, and a list of the wildlife you can see around the peninsula.
Take a marina tour to learn about the different types of vessels and the variety of nautical activities available to Tides Inn guests.
Or meet at the dock to test your crabbing skills and learn special techniques for catching blue crabs.
